One Year

Yesterday I drafted this post, but as I lay in bed last night, I decided that post was not the one I wanted to send. For the past year I have only remembered that day, the day where everything changed, the worst day of my life, the days following weren’t much better. But, it’s time to stop.

It’s time to stop remembering what happened to him and it’s time to start remembering him.

Today I CHOOSE to remember everything about him that I love and miss. These pictures don’t have anything to do with what is listed; they are just some of my favorite pictures of him.

I love you Dad and I hope I continue to make you proud of me and watch over us often. I miss you so much every day.

1. His love for his family

2. His love for MY family

3. The way he could talk to anyone about anything

4. The way he supported me in everything I did

5. The way he listened when I was having a bad day

6. His love for Diet Pepsi, and Pepsi, he never went anywhere without a cold diet pepsi and a bottle of water. For awhile he even carried a mini cooler in the car ๐Ÿ˜‰

7. The way he loved us all unconditionally, no matter how bad or how often we screwed up.

8. His nicknames for everything and everyone.

9. Papa Day

  1. Thinking about you today — no words to make you feel better but nonetheless, thinking about you.

  2. I love this post. It’s so hard to push past the “end” and remember the fantastic memories. So glad you have these wonderful photos and amazing memories. Love you girl!

  3. Wow, I don’t even know you or him but I think this post was a great memorial. Awesome job.

  4. I hope you stop to thank God for having such a great Dad. I can see in the pics he loved y’all sooooooooooo much and his face is so kind. I can totally believe he was just awesome.

I miss my mom and dad so much, and they’ve been gone for years. The missing never goes away. And the gratitude stays. I thank God almost every day that I was loved so well and nurtured by good people who were devoted to family.

It IS a great blessing to have been so loved. And, I believe, STILL be loved, as I believe my folks’ spirits are alive in Heaven, still wanting to be with us.

It’s a hard anniversary, the first one. I remember going to the anniversary Mass and bawling.

It does get a bit easier each year, but your dad’s place in your heart is forever.
He would be delighted to see how much he’s loved still by this blog post.

    I pray comfort over you…

  5. Sending big hugs your way Jen. I know its hard, but I love how you wrote that you will start remembering HIM not about what HAPPENED to him. The pain does ease and you will get to the point when you will say “Dad would have thought that was funny!”

My Dad loved to cook and he was an awesome photographer – he would have been the best food blogger!

    Hugs!

  18. Sorry for my late response, I’ve been off the map the last week, but I loved this post Jen. You will always miss him, and love him, and this was a beautiful post that shared a bit of why with the rest of the world. I hope you are having a good week that is filled with love.

  19. I am so happy for you! I know how that struggle is and you focus so much! It took me about the same to realize, I can’t dwell or change what happened, but I can remember and share! It has been 6yrs since my Mom died of a sudden heart attack! That first year was very rough for me! I send you lots of hugs and kudos! I am watching your blog for my inspiration too! I do not want to end up with the same health and weight problems she struggled with and I am going down that path! I have to stop and refocus!! You are an inspiration! Lots of hugs and from this day forward REMEMBERING and Never Forgetting!!! I aways call April 17th My Mom’s D-Day, but it is a day we do something to remember who she was and what she stood for! Big hugs to you!!!! Love the photos too! He looked like a truly wonderful father, friend, and Grandpa!!!!

  20. What a beutiful post. Grieving is so hard, but I am glad that you seem to be finding peace.
